Veteran white collar defense and tax attorney Nathan J. Hochman has joined Ellis George as a partner in its Los Angeles office. Hochman served as the Assistant Attorney General for the U.S. Department of Justice’s Tax Division in 2008 and as an Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Criminal Division of the Central District of California from 1990–1997. Before joining Ellis George, Hochman was a partner at Morgan, Lewis & Bockius, where he was the deputy chair of their white collar litigation and government investigations practice group, and a partner at Bingham McCutchen, where he was the chair of their white collar investigations and enforcement practice.
Hochman has achieved notable successes throughout the United States and the world representing clients in the U.S. government’s efforts to prosecute U.S. taxpayers and intermediaries for unreported offshore income and accounts. Hochman has also represented individuals and corporations in large-scale environmental prosecutions, multi-million dollar conspiracy and wire-fraud violations, and other high-profile matters such as the defense of the former Sheriff of Los Angeles County, Lee Baca. Hochman has also spoken and written in the area of U.S. and global enforcement in the cryptocurrency and blockchain arenas.
Hochman joins several former criminal prosecutors at Ellis George, including Thomas P. O’Brien, former U.S. Attorney for the Central District of California, Joseph P. Russoniello, former U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of California, and Ivy Wang, former Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Central District of California.
