Tom O’Brien, the former United States Attorney for the largest federal district in the country, has once again been named a top white collar lawyer in California by the Daily Journal. As the head of Ellis George’s white collar defense group, Mr. O’Brien has successfully represented numerous individuals in complex white collar prosecutions, including securing a full acquittal of a doctor accused of insurance fraud and a mistrial – and eventual dismissal – of a U.S. Navy officer accused of bribery and corruption. Taking the federal government to trial “is the best opportunity to highlight any possible missteps taken during the investigation and prosecution and to offer a different way for jurors to view the evidence,” he told the Daily Journal. The publication also highlighted Mr. O’Brien’s predictions on future enforcement trends by the U.S. Department of Justice, including pursuing companies and individuals involved in corporate malfeasance.
Mr. O’Brien has over 30 years’ experience as a prosecutor and white collar defense lawyer, and has successfully tried over 100 criminal and civil cases in federal and state courts throughout the nation. He has also conducted internal investigations for multi-billion-dollar companies, and has represented numerous corporations and individuals facing federal criminal investigation.
